Instagram has added new features to its platform today. One feature is called Focus, which is a portrait mode, and the other is a new way of mentioning other Instagram users in their stories using a sticker.

The Focus mode is the company’s take on various portrait modes that have been popping up in new smartphones. Instagram said that the new feature will be located below the record button and next to its superzoom setting. In a statement, Instagram said that as soon as it detects that someone is in the shot, the person remains in focus and the background blurs softly. “Simply tap to take a photo or tap and hold to record a video,” the company instructs.

Instagram said that the Focus mode leverages face detection technology and background segmentation.

As for the newer way for users to mention another IG user on their platform, there is the “@mention” sticker found on the sticker tray. Once the user selects the option, it will be like mentioning them in the photo caption.

The Facebook-owned company says that the Focus feature is available on users of iPhone 6S and up and other selected Android devices.

Photos with an artfully blurred background and a focused subject became popular on Instagram feeds since late 2016. This led Instagram to test the camera mode and a spokesperson then said that it would be another way to make it easier for users to share their everyday moments.
