Apple, like any other large tech company, is subject to a number of legal battles. Whether these legal battles are legitimate or take root from patent trolls, there is seemingly no end to these issues for the company. Most of the time, these issues are generally swept under the rug or just ignored, but there has been a very long legal battle fought between Apple and Qualcomm. Recently, Qualcomm revealed in a court hearing that Apple is more than $7 billion behind in royalty payments. This is not the first time Qualcomm is accusing Apple of similar issues.
This news was first reported by Reuters, who noted that Qualcomm made these specific comments about the royalty issue with Apple in a federal court in San Diego. Currently, Apple is arguing that these accusations by Qualcomm unfairly charge for the use of their patents. This issue of royalty payments is something that has been going on for quite some time, with Apple being adamant and withholding royalty payments to Qualcomm ever since this dispute started. It is reported that, in last April alone, Apple had withheld more than $1 billion in royalty payments to Qualcomm. According to recent information provided by Qualcomm, that number has only gotten larger. This is the latest issue that has been tacked onto Apple, with Qualcomm accusing Apple of stealing their source code and handing it to Intel just last month.
This news is just one of many issues that have come up in this legal battle. After all of the accusations had been hurled against the other company, the current chief executive officer (CEO) of Qualcomm said that the company still hopes to do business with Apple. Tim Cook, the current CEO of Apple, seems to agree with this sentiment, but said he believes that this legal dispute is far from over.
