Botnik Studios, an entertainment group that creates human-machine creative projects, adds a new chapter in the series of Harry Potter fantasy novels using artificial intelligence.
The new chapter, entitled “Harry Potter and the Portrait of What Looked Like a Large Pile of Ash” was written by an AI and not by original Harry Potter series author J.K. Rowling. Botnik Studios first fed the algorithmic tool with all the contents of the Harry Potter story, and as a result, the AI automatically generated the new chapter.
“We use predictive keyboards trained on all seven books to ghostwrite this spellbinding new Harry Potter chapter,” wrote Botnik Studios in its official Twitter page.
Although the result was a bulk of the text, a group of writers worked together to transform the text into something that is actually intelligible. Among these writers was Jamie Brew, who had previous experience working with an automated text prediction. The group compiled the writings and made it understandable and grammatically correct. At one point, the AI-generated text read: “Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: ‘You are Hagrid now.’”
The Botnik Studios admits that the writing may be borderline comical. However, their work shows that artificial intelligence can partly reproduce the writing style of J.K. Rowling.
